The International Vaccine Institute (IVI) is seeking Research Scientist: One Health for 2-year-regular positions (renewable) within the Policy & Economic Research Department at the International Vaccine Institute.

Job Description:

This position is part of a multi-disciplinary team that works on collection of field data and collation of existing evidence to support global, regional and country policy decisions on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and is part of an upcoming AMR Policy and Advocacy Project.

The primary role of this position is to technically contribute to the One Health (human, animal, environmental sectors) approach to AMR, antimicrobial consumption (AMC), and antimicrobial use (AMU) aspects of the project. In addition, this position will have the responsibility of technical coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

The ability to communicate, coordinate with, and advance partnership-building with various international collaborators, UN agencies, government entities various research bodies, and advocacy partners on policy issues, is a crucial skill required. The position will have significant travel to low- and middle-income countries and the work will be carried out in collaboration with various departments within the International Vaccine Institute and external partners.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Conduct Policy and Economics Research projects
  • Technical coordination, timeline management and partner engagement activities under the AMR policy advocacy grant.
  • Develop appropriate technical documents, summary reports and manuscripts relevant to low- and middle-income countries.
  • Design and implement technical activities and policy interventions in partnership with various stakeholders, including the project Consortium partners.
  1. Build networks with internal/external scientist and stakeholders and actively pursue new funding opportunities
  • Develop innovative ideas on AMR and vaccine research and support writing grant proposals.
  • Represent the department within IVI, support institutional activities and effectively communicate with external collaborators

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  1. Education Requirements
  • Master’s degree/PhD with relevant experience. Veterinary/ animal health/One Health background is an asset.
  1. Related Field Work Experience
  • Work experience and good understanding of health systems in LMICs is important.
  • Experience in AMR, One Health and Epidemiological analysis are an asset.
  • Experience in facilitating workshops, training/capacity-building initiatives, stakeholder meetings, and the conduct of focus group discussions desirable.
  • Direct experience and prior engagement with the One Health Tripartite (FAO, OIE, WHO) is an asset.
  1. Technical and Professional Skills / Knowledge
  • Veterinary degree with Ph.D and 5+ years of international
  • Hands-on experience in South and South East Asia and Africa
  1. Language Proficiency
  • Fluency in English
  • Understanding of French is an asset
